As the big day draws near, the
pressure and stress on me is intolerable. It is affecting me psychologically
and physically. I have difficulty sleeping at night, I experienced recurring
dreams for several days, the amount of food I consumed increased tremendously
and the obvious solid proof is the protruding fat on my belly.
And all this is
because of the ‘big day’, the day when I will carry out my mission – the mission
to apply for my visa. And the success and failure of this mission depends
largely on my IELTS results (which will be released in 2 days) and certificate
of good conduct (sijil kelakuan baik)
(not that I committed crimes, but the application process is pretty time
consuming).
For IELTS, there’s not much to
fret about because the test is already done and all I have to do now is to get
my result. I am actually quite confident in listening, reading and writing
test, but speaking test is a little worrying because the examiner seemed to cut
me off when I tried elaborating my answer and because of that, it makes me feels
that I talked too much. But really, nothing can be done anymore. It’s either I make
it or I don’t make it. And all I need now is 6 in all sections. Fingers crossed
for speaking test result.
As for certificate of good conduct
(CGC), the application is fairly straightforward. All you have to do is:
1.
Go to http://www.kln.gov.my/web/guest/home
2.
Click on the e-consular option on
the right column
3.
Create a log in account (read the
registration guideline first! It has a lot of information regarding the
application of CGC)
4.
Once you log in, click on the “Application
for Certificate of Good Conduct” option
5.
Fill in all required information
and upload a photograph
6.
Click submit
Once you’re done with the application procedure, you
will be given a transaction code and you will also receive an email from Ministry
of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). Most important of all, you will be issued an acknowledgement of application for CGC. You need to
print and keep this acknowledgement slip for reference and collection of CGC. You
need to constantly check the status of your application as you will not be
notified by anyone when your CGC is ready.
I applied for mine on the 20th May 2014 and
my status is still “In Process”. How annoying. I called the consular department (03 8887 4159
or 03 8887 4100) twice since the day of application. The first time I called
to the second phone number (03 8887 4100, on the 20th May 2014 at around 4 pm), the
person in charge sounded very impatient and rude so I could not be bothered
asking much question about the application (I was oblivious about the current application
process at that time). I decided to research online on how long it takes to
process the application and I found out that recent blog posts stated that the
blogger received their CGC within 6 days to 10 days. I am honestly surprise at
that figure – very much shorter than expected. 8 days passed and my application
status is still ‘In Process’, or more specifically, 6 working days. My paranoia took over and I called the consular department again – this time, regarding
the processing time. Instead calling the same number as before, i called another phone number of the consular department, ie 03 8887 4159. The person in charge is very
polite and soft-spoken. She ensured me that the process takes within 1-3 weeks before approval. Hopefully I will get my CGC
soon. Will update when I get mine.
Details of
consular department
Address:
Wisma Putra
No 1, Jalan Wisma Putra
Precint 2,
62602 Putrajaya
Opening
hours: Monday – Thursday: 8.30 am – 12.30 pm, 2 pm – 4 pm.

number: 03 8000 8000 (alternatively, 03

NB1: The reason why I choose to write down my
experience with CGC application is because there’s no new/latest information on
the application process. It’s frustrating for people like me who knows nothing
about CGC application and length of processing period. Plus, sharing is caring.
NB2: I can’t wait to celebrate and to shout with happiness when the status changes to “Certificate Is Ready for Collection”.
Update (30th May 2014)
DOUBLE HAPPINESS!
The status of my CGC application changed to "Certificate Ready For Collection" at around 12.30 pm, that's when I found out about it. Earlier today, I checked the status at 9.00 am, 10.30 am and 11.30 am but they were still "In Process", so please check your status as soon as possible. I am so grateful that I managed to get my certificate today!, the last day before leaving! Praise Lord!
The CGC collection process is very easy. Use waze guide you to Wisma Putra, give your driving license to the security guard, get a number from the counter in front of the consular office, and wait for your turn. I was there on a Friday and they resume working at 2.45 pm onward till 4 pm. And once my number was called, I submit my acknowledgement slip and RM20, then they ask me to return to my seat and wait. Within 5 minutes, I was called and got my CGC! I feel that the lady in charge is very nice and pleasant, and their service if very efficient. A BIG reminder: Please DO NOT wear short pants, short skirts or slippers - you might be stopped by the guards (although I didn't witness anything like this when I was there, but it's always best to be on the safe side.)
As a summary for my CGC
Processing time: 10 days
Time taken to travel to Wisma Putra: 40 minutes
Time taken from getting a number to CGC collection: 15 minutes
Also, my IELTS result meet the visa requirement! (Let me brag a little too! One week of preparation and I got an overall 8. 8.5 for reading and listening, 7.5 for speaking and worst of all, 6.5 for writing! I need to retake IELTS again if I want to register with the Pharmacy Board, they require minimum of 7 for all sections and an overall band of 8.)
Hi i actually applied for certificate of a good conduct online, i did applied on the 23 june 2013, according to my friend, he got his certificate of a good conduct after 3 days so it got me worried as i thought something else happened. with your post as you said yours took 10 days i will have to wait till friday again, hopefully i will get it. please i want to ask a question and i hope someone can help me out as i am very very stressed about it. while i was in malaysia as a student my school was closed down at the process i was caught by police and they charged me for over stayed then sentenced me to 2 weeks in the prison and got me deported. i just want to know if this can affect my certificate of good conduct. please guys reply pls
ReplyDeleteHi Kelvin, every one's processing time is different. I too have friends that got theirs within a week. But the longer processing time does not mean that there's something wrong with it. I like to think that it's because the government servants are slacking. Since you're got a record, I am pretty sure that it will affect your certificate. Best to just wait and see, I am no expert in CGC and may be wrong about it. Let me know how it goes. All the best buddy! :)
DeleteGod is our maker, he will clear me out as i was never a criminal, in all it was the school and malaysia fault. i have prayed and God have promised to sort out all for me.. surely i will win and laugh loud soonest. thanks amber eyes

DeleteHi kelvin! Did u receive a reply regarding yr certificate? Did u get it? I just applied it yesterday. My heart is pounding! I hope u got yours :)
DeleteAmarpreet, how long does it take your certificate to be ready? I just applied mine 2 days ago, I hope I can get it done in a week's time if not I might be late for enrollment Q_Q
DeleteHi, i forgot to print APPLICATION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT SLIP for CGC. What can i do or where can i find the APPLICATION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT SLIP again?
DeleteDid you get any solution for your problem? because Im having the same problem as you now.
DeleteHi Haziq,
DeleteHave you got your CGC , if yes what was the timeline, plz help . I am in dire need of CGC
Oh my this blog is very very informative ! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteToday I have just applied for my CGC. But I found out that it says it will take 1-2 months of proccesing time. I was anxious about this as I need my Cert as soon as 20 Oct at least for my working permit application abroad.
My friend told me that he had just gone to Putrajaya the last time and that was like 2 years ago. When he was going abroad for work as well, It took him just a day to be done with it. So I was quite surprised , from the site it takes such long time to obtain it.
Anyways after submitting the application today, i tried to call the number given at 038000800 for more information and to confirm if there is any way to get it sooner. The lady whom attended my call was quite nice but she advised me to call directly to the consular dept at either 03 887 4100 /4645/4159/4412. I made the call within 2.20pm-4.15pm. I tried 3 times all of the numbers as i really need some confirmation. As I find the quide from the official site is quite vague and most blogs i searched online is dated from 2012 .
With your blog I have found a bit of clarity , but just to be sure I might try my luck to call the consular tomorrow. At least now I know that I just need to wait for the status to change by logging in time to time . I was hoping that they would at least email us once it is ready for collection. By the way I did not receive any notification of submission to my email add but I did save the acknowledgement of application and will print it once my status is ready for collection.! Thanks Amber for this blog. Wish me luck and I think i would reply here once on when i got my cert ready. ^^
I'm on the same boat as you. Waiting for the CGC for work permit abroad and I applied on 30th September. Hoping to receive it within 2 weeks as mentioned by this blog post.
Delete@Leandra - I hope you already had yours with you. I just submitted mine today and I am worried if it will really take 1-2 months to process. Though I have no specific time when I am going it to use it, but definitely sooner than I thought. Do you have update on this? I want to benchmark if it could take more than 1 month to process or can get it even earlier. :)
DeleteTo the blogger: Thank you for documenting your process, this is indeed very helpful and informative! All the forums I read are outdated.
The blog post above is very accurate in its timeline. Took 10 days from the day I applied online to receive the status "Ready for collection."
DeleteI hope it will be 10 days. Btw, I am a non-local, I am from the Philippines and I've worked in Malaysia for 3 years.
DeleteHope any expats here as well can share their timeline? I'd be willing to share mine once I'm done. :)
No worries everyone! I have two friends who applied for cgc from overseas, Australia, an it took them around a month. Idk why there's double standard...
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, I got the status 'Certificate is Ready for Collection ' in less than 3 days! Now I'm going to collect it in Putrajaya tomorrow.
ReplyDeletemy husband lives in India, how can he collect it?
ReplyDeleteSame. I live in South Korea and my hometown is Sabah. Can I just collect at the High Commision here?
Deletepls collect at kk

ReplyDeleteI just applied CGC yesterday (12 Jan 2015), hoping that I can get it done under 10 days, or else I might not have my student visa done before I depart for further study ;(

ReplyDeleteDear Sir/Miss/Madam,

DeleteLodged mine on 5/4/2016 and still in process today (14/4/2016). Is it true that the certification is only valid for 3 months? I have yet to start my PR application but thought that I just initiate it since this will be the longest-taking document to produce, compared to others.
ReplyDeleteHi there,i just filled up only red astric mark detail today i received "invalid documents" prefer to cobsular documents..whats that mean.plz advice me
ReplyDeleteis it because of the file type?

Ive been phoning the consulate here in Pretoria almost daily & have emailed all my details to them, without any luck. I dont know what to do. If I re-submit it may complicate matters. Any suggestions please? Also, on the 'check progress' facility, what will it actually STATE when its been processed? My police clearance from China was easy by comparison. Called up the officers but there's no way I can "mempercepatkan process ni". The two ladies were very attentive though, just asked me to wait, patiently... Sigh, If I'd known this before I'd have apply this way earlier...
ReplyDeleteI applied on 28 June and it's still "in process'. Has anyone applied after me and got approved already?

DeleteHi,
DeleteSorry for lots of questions, but I didn't get any update until now, how did they know I going to collect in Ireland? I put my Ireland address.
After you have applied online, nobody will tell you that you have to come and collect. You now have to keep checking on the website where you made your application and when it says ready for collection then you go to Malaysian embassy in Ireland.
DeleteShirley phone the embassy in Ireland to tell them that you want to collect the certificate and they will give you further details. Your certificate has been processed from Malaysia basing on the info you mentioned above

Deleteyes, i did phone them, but they said you need an email of conformation for collection if not they can't do anything. It is stated ready for collection since 30 OCT, nut until today no more update or any email send to me. Did you receive any confirmation email for collection?
DeleteShirley they dont send emails unfortunately. I am I'm the UK and if you are in Ireland that should be Europe. Take a screenshot from the website and the reference number then call them again
DeleteThanks for your information! I will go to the embassy on Monday. Good luck
DeleteHow did it go?
